What happened
The Delhi High Court directed the Government of India (the Centre) to respond to a petition filed by the Central Secretariat Club. The club challenged revocation of its recognition and sought protection against eviction from its current premises.
The club also challenged an eviction order issued by the Estate Officer requiring it to vacate its premises near the President’s Estate.
The High Court issued notice to the central government for filing its response. The club’s counsel requested an interim status quo order, arguing that otherwise no effective situation would remain for the court to protect.
The High Court rejected the immediate interim relief sought and listed the matter for hearing on 24 August.
