What happened
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) to remove encroachments and unauthorised constructions within 72 hours of detection. The SOP was finalised under directions of Lt. Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and is meant to make enforcement quicker and more predictable.
How the SOP is designed
The DDA SOP uses field-level enforcement and digital monitoring together. The stated components are:
Quick response teams and flying squads are to act after detection of an encroachment or unauthorised construction.
Geo-tagged monitoring is to record and track the location of violations.
