Congress leaders in Telangana have asked the Election Commission to extend the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The delegation, led by Hyderabad In-Charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy and said voter verification and corrections were moving slowly, especially in Hyderabad’s 15 Assembly constituencies.
The delegation claimed that only about 21% of the voter revision work in Hyderabad district had been completed and that only 10 days remained. It said additional time was needed so eligible voters are not left out of the revised rolls.
The minister said Hyderabad has roughly 4,500 polling stations and alleged that urban verification was not progressing smoothly. He also claimed that booth-level officers were not visiting houses in some localities and that some voters were not receiving the required forms.
The delegation also urged Congress workers to participate actively in enrolment and verification during the remaining days. The issue is tied to electoral-roll accuracy, voter inclusion, and the administrative capacity required for roll revision in a large urban constituency.
