Draft electoral rolls in Odisha, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu recorded about 23.82 lakh deletions during the third phase of special intensive revision (SIR). The figures matter because electoral-roll revision sits at the core of free and fair elections under India’s constitutional and statutory election framework.
The update reported that the five regions had about 3.72 crore electors before SIR began. Deletions amounted to 6.39% of the pre-SIR electorate, and voters were given one month to file claims and objections before the final rolls were scheduled for publication on 11 September.
