What happened: Delhi government inspection campaign and enforcement against industrial pollution

The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, reported an industrial pollution-control inspection campaign. The government inspected 2,011 industrial units between January and July to check compliance with environmental standards and pollution-control permissions.

The Delhi government reported the following enforcement outcomes from the inspection campaign:

Environmental compensation (a monetary penalty intended to respond to environmental non-compliance) was imposed on 44 industrial units.Closure orders were issued against 33 industrial units for non-compliance with pollution-control norms.The Delhi government stated 106 industrial units were found non-compliant with prescribed environmental standards.The Delhi government stated 78 industrial units were operating without a valid Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The Delhi government also urged citizens to report pollution-related violations through the Green Delhi app and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) 311 app. The government stated that action is being pursued under relevant environmental laws and emphasised controlling pollution at its source rather than relying only on penal action after violations.
