What happened

The Union government appointed Harjit Singh Grewal as Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities. The government also named Munawari Begum as Vice-Chairperson and Glenn E. Souza Ticlo as a member. The appointments will run for three years from the date of assumption of office or until further orders.

The chairperson post had been vacant since April 2025. With the new appointments, the commission has four members against a sanctioned strength of seven.
