Union government appoints new Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and member to the National Commission for Minorities
- The Union government appointed Harjit Singh Grewal as Chairperson, Munawari Begum as Vice-Chairperson, and Glenn E. Souza Ticlo as a member of the National Commission for Minorities.

What happened
The Union government appointed Harjit Singh Grewal as Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM). The Ministry of Minority Affairs also appointed Munawari Begum as Vice-Chairperson and Glenn E. Souza Ticlo as a member. Each appointment carries a term of three years from the date of assuming office or until further orders.
The appointments are important because the Chairperson post had remained vacant since April 2025, after the term of Iqbal Singh Lalpura ended. The government’s notification also indicates that the National Commission for Minorities will function with four members against its sanctioned strength of seven.
