What happened: NCM’s first meeting of 2026

The newly re-constituted National Commission for Minorities (NCM) held its first meeting of 2026 on 21 August 2026 under the chairmanship of Shri Harjit Singh Grewal, Chairman, NCM. The meeting was attended by Ms. S. Munawari Begum, Vice Chairperson; Shri Berjis Desai, Member; and Shri Glenn E Souza Ticlo, Member. The Secretary of NCM, Shri Suchindra Misra, and Joint Secretary of NCM, Dr. Atya Nand, also attended, along with other officers of the Commission.

What the NCM reviewed in the meeting

During the meeting, the Commission reviewed issues related to minority welfare and minority communities’ interests. The Commission also deliberated on issues placed before it for consideration. Members exchanged views on the ongoing activities of the Commission and discussed the way forward on pending matters.

What changed now: first meeting after re-constitution

The key change highlighted in the government communication is that the National Commission for Minorities is newly re-constituted and has started its 2026 meeting cycle with a first meeting that includes the Commission’s current leadership and member team.
