Kuki group calls for Centre’s intervention on blockade by Nagas

The Kuki-Zo Council has sought Union government intervention after Naga groups continued to block the supply of essentials to Kuki-Zo areas in Kangpokpi district, Manipur. The issue combines humanitarian access, ethnic tensions, and a political demand for a separate administrative arrangement.
The council met Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit and senior officials of the Union Home Ministry. Kuki-Zo leaders said restoration of the popular government in Manipur on February 4, after President’s Rule had been imposed a year earlier, had not improved their situation.
Kuki-Zo representatives said at least 15 Kuki-Zo people had been killed and 14 villages of the community had been burned so far, according to their account. They also reiterated a demand for separate administration, described by Kuki-Zo spokesperson Ginza Vualzong as a Union Territory with a legislature.

The demand for a separate administration can be linked to constitutional arrangements, President’s Rule, and the limits of ad hoc security responses.
