Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the BJP government in West Bengal is putting its “Sonar Bangla” promise into practice through a new ₹700-crore Amul dairy project at Sankrail in Howrah. The project is being presented as an industrial and agricultural value-chain investment, with political messaging around governance, security, and economic change in the state.
The announcement also linked the project to dairy farmers, milk processing, and new industrial capacity in eastern India. Shah said discussions covered governance and security, including steps to stop infiltration, strengthen law and order, and improve women’s safety.
What the announcement says
Shah virtually laid the foundation stone for the project and described it as housing what he called the country’s largest curd production plant. According to his remarks, the plant will process 10 lakh litres of milk and is expected to benefit small dairy farmers.
Shah also said the Chief Minister was asked to provide two 15-acre plots so that milk production and processing can be expanded for eastern India.
