MoU and certification under White Revolution 2.0; launch of e-RCS portal and foundation/inauguration of dairy warehouses in West Bengal
West Bengal's cooperative package links White Revolution 2.0 with digital registration, rural storage, and member-based mobility services.
- The office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in West Bengal is being computerised through the e-RCS portal to make registration and administrative processes more accessible.
- More than 200 newly constituted dairy cooperative societies are being recognised under White Revolution 2.0.
- Fourteen warehouses are planned across 10 districts, and two completed warehouses will be inaugurated in South 24 Parganas and Cooch Behar.
What happened
The Ministry of Cooperation has announced a set of cooperative and rural infrastructure measures for West Bengal. The package covers dairy cooperatives, multipurpose rural cooperative societies, digital registration for cooperative societies, storage warehouses, and a mobility-services agreement involving Bharat Taxi and the Department of Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal.
The announcements are tied to White Revolution 2.0, cooperative digitisation, and rural logistics support. The stated objective is to strengthen member-based institutions and improve access to services for farmers, milk producers, and rural households.
UPSC may use the West Bengal cooperative package to test the role of cooperatives in rural development, the usefulness of digital registration systems in governance, and the importance of storage infrastructure for farm and dairy value chains. A mains question can also connect White Revolution 2.0 with member-owned institutions, ease of doing business for cooperatives, and last-mile service delivery.
