What happened
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved the Master Plan for Delhi-2047, replacing the earlier Delhi-2041 master plan planning horizon. The approval meeting was chaired by Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The DDA approved master plan was to be forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and notification.
Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu linked the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 with the national “Viksit Bharat@2047” vision. The meeting also discussed roadmaps for sustainable and inclusive urban growth and measures to improve “ease of doing business” and “ease of living” in Delhi.
Background and earlier position
The earlier Delhi-2041 master plan remained pending with the Centre for more than three years, with multiple missed deadlines after the start of the third term of the Narendra Modi government. During the delay, several policy elements were pursued separately rather than being fully integrated into the master plan frame.
