What happened
Skyroot Aerospace launched Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The mission placed the vehicle into its designated Low Earth Orbit and was described by the Union government as a milestone for India’s commercial space capability.
The launch was presented as the first orbital launch by a private Indian company from Indian soil. The government linked the achievement to the opening of the space sector to private participation and to the growing role of the Department of Space, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and IN-SPACe in enabling private launch activity.
