What happened

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has published state-wise seafood export performance data for 2021-22 to 2025-26. The release gives quantity and value figures for States and Union Territories and is useful mainly as a trade-statistics and marine-economy reference.

The table covers major coastal and non-coastal locations such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, along with other States and Union Territories. It also provides yearly totals for exported quantity and value.

Why the data matters for UPSC

Seafood exports link fisheries, aquaculture, external trade, and coastal development. UPSC can use such data to test export geography, sectoral growth, and the role of the marine economy in rural and coastal livelihoods.

The release is not a new law or scheme, but it helps candidates revise how a sector-specific export dataset is used in policy analysis, especially for value addition, market access, infrastructure, and state-level performance comparison.
