The Government of India has approved two Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) in Tamil Nadu, at Manallur and Pillapaikkam. The approvals matter because electronics manufacturing is a core part of India’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat and for building a stronger domestic value chain.

The approvals were announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) scheme. The Government of India has linked the decision to its broader strategy of targeted support for electronics manufacturing across the value chain.
