What happened (PMRC launched for Indian-origin researchers with experience outside India)
The Ministry of Education launched the Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme to support researchers and professionals of Indian origin who have experience outside India. PMRC support is provided across three experience-based categories and 13 thematic areas in engineering, science and technology.
Categories and eligibility based on post-Ph.D. experience
UPSC can frame PMRC as an example of research-funding design that links eligibility to post-Ph.D. experience brackets and maps support to 13 engineering/science/technology thematic areas. The scheme is also an example of implementation through a dedicated portal that hosts eligibility criteria and eligible institutions.
