What happened (PMRC launched for Indian-origin researchers with experience outside India)

The Ministry of Education launched the Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme to support researchers and professionals of Indian origin who have experience outside India. PMRC support is provided across three experience-based categories and 13 thematic areas in engineering, science and technology.

Categories and eligibility based on post-Ph.D. experience

PMRC support is structured by post-Ph.D. experience: Young Research Fellows: up to 5 years of post-Ph.D. experience required.Senior Fellows: post-Ph.D. experience from 5 to 10 years required.Research Chairs: post-Ph.D. experience of more than 10 years required.

Thematic coverage: 13 areas in engineering, science and technology

PMRC support is available under 13 thematic areas related to engineering, science and technology. The scheme announcement states that PMRC eligibility criteria and the list of eligible institutions are available on the PMRC portal (pmrc.education.gov.in) in the scheme’s “about” section.
