National-Digital Investigation Support Centre (I4C): early-stage forensic assistance to State/UT police

What happened: I4C created National-Digital Investigation Support Centre for police cyber forensics

The Ministry of Home Affairs established the National-Digital Investigation Support Centre as part of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). The stated purpose is to provide early-stage cyber forensic assistance to Investigating Officers (IOs) of State and Union Territory police. The Government links the centre to an earlier name, National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (Investigation) (NCFL(I)).

Background and earlier position: two operational locations and an earlier name

The Government states that the National-Digital Investigation Support Centre was established at New Delhi on 18.02.2019 and at Assam on 29.08.2025. The Government also states that the centre previously functioned under the name National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (Investigation) (NCFL(I)) before becoming part of I4C as National-Digital Investigation Support Centre.

What changed now: Assam centre expansion and reported New Delhi service scale

A key new operational development is the establishment of the National-Digital Investigation Support Centre in Assam on 29.08.2025, alongside the National-Digital Investigation Support Centre in New Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs also reports service utilisation for the New Delhi centre: by 30.06.2026, the National-Digital Investigation Support Centre provided services to State and Union Territory law enforcement agencies in more than 14,064 cases pertaining to cyber crimes.
