What happened: ICAR-CMFRI stock assessment for 2021–2025

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) assessed marine fish stocks of Indian waters using information from its Marine Fish Stock Status of India publication for 2021–2025. The institute reported no palpable decline in trawl-based fish landings during 2021–2025 and stated that marine fish stocks are in good health.

ICAR-CMFRI’s assessment reported the following sustainability result for the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ):

• Total fish stocks evaluated: 135 across different regions of the Indian EEZ

• Sustainable fish stocks: 91.1% of 135 fish stocks
