What happened (PIB announcement)
The Ministry of Railways reported that train speed improvement depends on multiple engineering and operational inputs, with track upgradation as a core driver. The ministry listed specific track upgrades used over roughly the last 12 years and then provided quantified data on how much track enables different speed bands for 2014 versus 2026. The ministry also stated that two Golden Quadrilateral rail routes are being enhanced up to 160 kmph under Mission Raftaar.
