The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released Independent Drive Test findings for mobile network quality in Hamirpur, Bilaspur and nearby areas under the Himachal Pradesh Licensed Service Area. The exercise matters because it checks whether mobile service quality seen by consumers on the ground matches operator claims and licensing obligations.
Independent Drive Tests are a field-based method used by TRAI to verify real-time voice and data quality across different usage environments. TRAI said the tests covered coverage, call drop rate, call setup success rate, download and upload throughput, latency, jitter and packet drop rate.
What TRAI tested
UPSC can use the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s drive-test findings to test understanding of TRAI’s role, Quality of Service monitoring, and the difference between claimed network coverage and field performance. The issue also fits questions on digital infrastructure, consumer protection in telecom, and regulatory enforcement.
