What happened: TRAI Independent Drive Test for Godda Lok Sabha constituency
TRAI released the findings of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) for mobile network quality across the Godda Lok Sabha Constituency in Jharkhand. The IDT covered parts of Deoghar, Godda and Dumka districts and adjoining areas, and it was conducted under Bihar LSA during June 2026.
What the Independent Drive Test measured (QoS for real-world usage)
The IDT’s purpose was to assess and verify real-time quality of mobile network services—both voice and data—provided by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). TRAI captured performance for key Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, including coverage and voice-call success and quality metrics, and data download/upload throughput and related measures.
How the drive test was conducted (technologies, places, and testing method)
TRAI designed the IDTs to capture on-ground mobile network performance for all TSPs in diverse usage environments such as cities and hotspots, and public transport hubs. Live voice sessions and data sessions were established using SIM cards of all TSPs across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks. Multiple test handsets were used and sessions were monitored and analysed in real time through software systems.
