The Ministry of Women and Child Development has said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has been expanded across all districts of India as part of the SAMBAL vertical of Mission Shakti. The ministry describes the programme as a behavioural-change initiative for improving the Child Sex Ratio, strengthening the social position of the girl child, and encouraging multi-sectoral action.
The policy significance lies in the nature of the scheme. The ministry says Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is not a direct cash-benefit programme with a countable beneficiary list. Instead, it works through awareness, engagement, and coordination among government agencies, media, civil society, and the public to shift attitudes toward the girl child.
The same ministerial reply also cites trend indicators that are relevant for UPSC preparation. Government data from the Health Management Information System of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show an improvement in Sex Ratio at Birth, while Unified District Information System for Education data show better enrolment of girls at the secondary level.
