What happened: NeVA MoUs for State/UT legislative digitisation

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs reported that 33 out of 37 State/UT Legislatures signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for implementing the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA).

The same government communication stated that 21 Legislative Houses have been transformed into digital legislatures under the NeVA project. The digitisation of the two Houses of Parliament was explicitly stated as outside the scope of the NeVA project.

NeVA’s reported functions inside a legislature

The government stated that NeVA improves legislative functioning by enabling electronic processing of house business. NeVA is described as reducing dependence on paper-based procedures and supporting faster processing and dissemination of legislative business.

NeVA is also described as improving accessibility of legislative information and creating cost savings in printing, handling, and storage of legislative documents.
