What happened (announcement and scope)
The Ministry of Home Affairs released the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029). Government information in the release states that the Vision Document was released on 26.06.2026. The release also states that the Vision Document is to be implemented by concerned Central ministries/departments/agencies and by State Governments/UTs using action points and timelines specified for each central entity.
The release also expects States and districts to prepare their own three-year road maps to control drugs in consonance with the National Road Map described in the Vision Document.

Narcotics control in India involves a mix of enforcement against trafficking and drug abuse, regulation and monitoring linked to precursors and synthetic drugs, demand reduction through prevention and harm reduction, and capacity building for coordination and forensics.
