What happened: NCC coverage facilitation via selected Government schools

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment stated in a Rajya Sabha written reply that the Central Government is facilitating expansion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) opportunities in Government schools located in Scheduled Caste (SC)-concentrated areas and in areas covered under the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY). The stated objective is to promote leadership, discipline, character-building, and national service among students from socially and educationally disadvantaged communities.

The Rajya Sabha reply reported the following status of 263 identified/shortlisted Government schools under the initiative:

25 schools already have NCC units8 schools are on the waiting list230 schools have not yet applied for establishment of NCC units
