What happened: NCC coverage facilitation via selected Government schools
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment stated in a Rajya Sabha written reply that the Central Government is facilitating expansion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) opportunities in Government schools located in Scheduled Caste (SC)-concentrated areas and in areas covered under the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY). The stated objective is to promote leadership, discipline, character-building, and national service among students from socially and educationally disadvantaged communities.
The Rajya Sabha reply reported the following status of 263 identified/shortlisted Government schools under the initiative:
25 schools already have NCC units8 schools are on the waiting list230 schools have not yet applied for establishment of NCC units

The Ministry’s stated data indicates that NCC unit establishment depends on a process step at the school or concerned authorities level, including application by eligible Government schools. Among the identified/shortlisted set, the reported pending category is 230 Government schools that had not yet applied for NCC unit establishment.
