What happened: Vidyanjali registration, onboarding and school support through a portal

The Ministry of Education reported how the Department of School Education and Literacy is facilitating community and volunteer participation in Government and Government-aided schools through the Vidyanjali portal. Vidyanjali is presented as a structured platform that channels volunteer and community support to schools, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s call for greater involvement of community members and alumni in volunteer efforts.

In the last one year, the Vidyanjali portal reported the following new registrations: 1,27,884 schools, 32,581 volunteers, and 1,126 CSR organisations/NGOs/institutions. The ministry also cited examples of reported interventions such as AI and Robotics Innovation Labs in Government schools in Delhi, digital classrooms and teacher capacity building in Dholpur, Rajasthan, strengthening of digital infrastructure in Mamit, Mizoram, contribution of desktop computers by NICSI in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, and school environment improvement through BaLA wall painting in Begusarai, Bihar.

Background and earlier position: NEP 2020 participation model for learning support

NEP 2020 (Para 3.7) envisions greater involvement of community members and alumni in volunteer efforts to enhance learning through activities such as one-to-one tutoring, literacy and remedial support, teaching support and guidance, career guidance and mentoring, and other learning-related activities. Vidyanjali is presented as the structured platform for channelising such support to schools through a dedicated portal.
