What happened: MoWCD introduced Poshan Tracker for digital monitoring
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) introduced the “Poshan Tracker” application as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based governance tool. MoWCD aims to review the progress of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 digitally, instead of relying primarily on manual paper-based tracking.
Poshan Tracker provides monitoring and review of services provided to beneficiaries at Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) as well as at beneficiaries’ homes. MoWCD, States, and Union Territories (UTs) can continuously review implementation using multiple parameters and use the review for course correction (changing implementation when monitoring shows gaps).
Background and earlier position: evaluation linked digitalization with service delivery
An outcome-based evaluation study of Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 was conducted by the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO), NITI Aayog (2025). The DMEO study reported that digitalization through Poshan Tracker has multi-dimensional impact across nutrition monitoring, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), beneficiary authentication, and service delivery efficiency.
The evaluation described Poshan Tracker as a shift from manual, paper-based systems to a technology-enabled governance framework under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP). The evaluation also described Poshan Tracker as a cornerstone for digital monitoring of beneficiaries, inventory, and service delivery at Anganwadi Centres.
