What happened: first-ever commercial sea export of GI-tagged Mithila Makhana to Australia
APEDA facilitated the first-ever commercial sea shipment of 18 Metric Tonnes of GI-tagged Mithila Makhana exported from Bihar to Australia. The export was routed from the BIADA Industrial Area, Bihta, Bihar, and the consignment was sourced from Makhana growers of Darbhanga district.
The export consignment was flagged off by Agriculture Minister, Government of Bihar Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha. The exporter named in the official communication was M/s NIAD Green, with logistics support from M/s Jitban Supply Chain Pvt. Ltd.. The consignment was packed at BIADA Industrial Area, Bihta, Bihar.
APEDA linked the logistics support with BHARATI (Bharat's Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement, and Incubation for Export Innovation), described in the communication as an APEDA-supported startup initiative.
The official communication states that the export was expected to strengthen the international presence of Bihar’s GI product and support higher farmer income through export-led market access. The communication also claims that farmers realised nearly 18 per cent higher returns than prevailing market rates.
