What happened: Government to scale up CyberShakti for training women officials in cyber security
The Government, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), decided to scale up the CyberShakti programme—a women-focused capacity-building initiative in cyber security. The Government’s decision follows a recommendation from the 2026 Standing Committee Report on the Empowerment of Women. The policy importance is in moving from a time-bound training run toward an expanded programme based on a formal committee recommendation.
Background and earlier position: Two-year CyberShakti approved from October 2024
The Government reports that CyberShakti was approved for a two-year period starting October 2024. The programme’s stated objective is to enhance cyber security awareness and strengthen cyber security skills among women government officials. A working group on cyber security recommended the second phase in May 2026.
Training under CyberShakti includes two delivery modes: 2-week Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) (online) and 1-week offline residential training (in-person).
