What happened: National Workshop on Mission Zero in Bhubaneswar
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organised a National Workshop on “Mission Zero: Ending Fatalities in Sanitation Work” at the State Convention Centre, Lokseva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 24 August 2026. Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi presided over the workshop in Bhubaneswar.
The workshop brought together senior Union and Odisha officials, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), sanitation-sector experts, manufacturers, technology providers, civil society organisations, and sanitation workers for discussions on building a safe, dignified, and fully mechanised sanitation ecosystem.
The event programme listed officials including Shri Sudhansh Pant (Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India), Smt. Anu Garg (Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha), and Smt. Usha Padhee (Additional Chief Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha). CPHEEO’s advisor, Shri V. K. Chaurasia, and municipal commissioners including Shri Chanchal Rana (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) and Dr. Vijay Suryavansi (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) were also present.
The workshop programme also named WATCO Managing Director Shri Debabrata Mohanty and NSKFDC Managing Director Shri Prabhat Kumar Singh. NSKFDC was identified in the programme as the nodal agency for implementation of NAMASTE.
