What happened
The Parents Association for Welfare and Justice has asked for an independent financial audit of private unaided schools in Delhi. The association also wants School Level Fee Regulation Committees to be set up immediately so that fee-setting becomes more transparent and parents gain a stronger role in school governance.
The association has also sought strict enforcement of legal protections against harassment linked to fee disputes and implementation of the Delhi School Education Act, 2025. At its launch in Delhi, association president Divya Mattey argued that parents should have a stronger role in making school systems transparent.
Background and earlier position
The immediate trigger is the May 22 judgment of the Delhi High Court. Under that ruling, private unaided schools were held not to need prior approval from the Directorate of Education before increasing fees at the start of an academic session.
The parents’ body says that the ruling has created concerns about transparency and parental safeguards. The group has therefore appealed to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court to take suo motu cognisance of the issue.
