What happened in Ranchi: march, police action, and injuries

Thousands of students and job aspirants from across Jharkhand marched toward the Jharkhand State Assembly in Ranchi during an indefinite strike over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations. The indefinite strike had entered its 17th day.

As protesters approached the Assembly gates, protesters reportedly broke through barricades. Police dispersed the crowd using lathicharge (baton charge).

Reported injuries included at least five protesters, including one protester with a head injury. Protesters continued a sit-in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium after the march.

Protesters demanded cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged recruitment irregularities. Police in Ranchi denied excessive force was used.
