What happened: AITA keeps the Executive Committee age cap at 70
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) fixed the maximum age for Executive Committee members at 70. AITA reached this outcome after an Extraordinary General Meeting on 26 July 2026 where delegates debated whether to keep the ceiling at 70 under the National Sports Governance Act framework or raise it to 75 by referencing the International Tennis Federation constitution, described as having no age limit for comparable leadership roles.
AITA’s voting outcome was confirmed after scrutiny. An internal note attributed to interim president Chintan Parikh confirmed the vote split as:
• 25 votes for keeping the maximum age at 70
• 22 votes for raising the maximum age to 75
AITA also clarified nomination eligibility under the revised age rule. AITA stated that nominees must be under 70 at the time of filing, but nominees may complete a four-year term even if they turn 70 during tenure. The age-based eligibility implication was described in the reporting as affecting senior administrators such as Anil Khanna due to his age at filing.
