What happened

Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas accused the BJP government in Rajasthan of avoiding responsibility for maternal deaths reported in government hospitals. He demanded ₹1 crore compensation for each deceased woman’s family.

Khachariyawas alleged that 19 women had died, two had lost eyesight, and six suffered kidney failure because of substandard or spurious medicines procured by the government. The allegations were linked to deaths reported in Bhilwara, Banswara, Bikaner and Kota.
