What happened

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has announced digital initiatives for Haj 2026 to improve the management of services for Indian pilgrims. The centrepiece is Haj Suvidha App 2.0, which is presented as an end-to-end platform for travel information, accommodation details, baggage information, emergency contacts, SOS support, health information, advisories, and grievance redressal.

The same digital system is being used for online Haj application, computerised selection, online payment, flight preference selection, and digital submission of passport details.

The UPSC angle · GS2

UPSC can frame the issue around how digital platforms improve public service delivery, transparency, and grievance redressal in a sensitive, multi-agency process such as the Haj pilgrimage. The question can also test the administrative role of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the practical limits of digitisation in citizen services.
