Centre Strengthens Judicial Infrastructure in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh under Centrally Sponsored Court Infrastructure Scheme

What happened: Centre’s fund releases and capacity status for Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh

The Ministry of Law and Justice reported centrally released support for district and subordinate courts in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh under the Centrally Sponsored Court Infrastructure Scheme (CSS) and the eCourts Mission Mode Project. The update includes (i) available court halls and residential units against sanctioned judge strength as of 31.05.2026, (ii) CSS construction completion and works under construction during the last five years, and (iii) fund releases during the last five years and for 2026-27. Background and earlier position: CSS for district and subordinate courts since 1993-94

The Centrally Sponsored Court Infrastructure Scheme for the Development of Infrastructure Facilities for the District and Subordinate Courts has been implemented since 1993-94. The CSS covers five components: Court Halls, Residential Units for Judicial Officers, Lawyers’ Halls, Toilet Complexes, and Digital Computer Rooms. Project selection and fund flow are linked to proposals from States/Union Territories and concerned High Courts, with tentative allocation and issuance of Mother Sanction before expenditure within approved limits under CSS guidelines.
