NCVET recognises NITTTR Kolkata as an Awarding Body (Dual)
NCVET recognition gives NITTTR Kolkata the authority to assess and certify approved qualifications directly delivered on its own campuses or training centres.

- NCVET has given NITTTR Kolkata direct authority to award, assess, and certify approved qualifications delivered in its own campuses or fully managed training centres.
- NCVET has approved NITTTR Kolkata’s first qualification titled “Fundamentals of Soil Testing.”
- The soil-testing qualification is intended to build practical competence in soil investigation, laboratory testing, soil-property interpretation, quality control, and use of Indian Standards in geotechnical engineering.
The National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) has recognised the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, as an Awarding Body (Dual). The recognition matters because NITTTR Kolkata can now award, assess, and certify learners for approved qualifications that are delivered directly in its own campuses or fully managed training centres.
NCVET also approved NITTTR Kolkata’s first qualification, “Fundamentals of Soil Testing”. The qualification is designed to build competence in soil investigation, laboratory testing procedures, interpretation of soil properties, quality control practices, and the use of Indian Standards in geotechnical engineering.
The development fits into India’s broader move towards competency-based training and the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). It also signals a stronger role for technical education institutions in creating industry-aligned vocational qualifications rather than limiting themselves to conventional teaching.
UPSC can frame the issue around NCVET’s regulatory role, the purpose of Awarding Body (Dual) recognition, and how competency-based qualifications under the National Skills Qualification Framework support employability in technical sectors such as infrastructure and geotechnical engineering.
