The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said in a Lok Sabha reply that the Skill India Mission is being used to deliver skill, re-skill, and up-skill training across India. The reply matters because it links a large Union government skilling architecture to employability, apprenticeship, and industry-relevant training.
What the Union government said
The Ministry said the skill ecosystem reaches learners through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Sikhshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The stated focus is on future-ready youth with industry-relevant skills.
The Ministry also said the government is expanding training opportunities in rural, tribal, and aspirational districts through more training infrastructure, wider coverage of underserved areas, and stronger State Skill Development Missions.
What changed under PMKVY 4.0
Under PMKVY 4.0, the Ministry said the scheme is implemented through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), an integrated digital platform for skilling, assessment, certification, and employment-related services. The design is stated to be more industry-led and demand-driven than earlier versions.
