What happened: MSDE expanded AI-based vocational training under PMKVY 4.0 and the NCVET ecosystem
MSDE reported that the Ministry, through NCVET and DGT under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, has initiated multiple programmes for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based training and skilling across sectors. The MSDE statement covered AI-related qualifications and learning products in the NCVET-regulated ecosystem, AI and AI-enabled job roles under PMKVY 4.0, and DGT’s AI courses and revised employability curriculum for Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
NCVET-regulated ecosystem: AI/ML qualifications, NOS, and micro-credentials
Under the NCVET-regulated ecosystem, MSDE stated that 116 National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF)-aligned and National Skill Qualification Committee (NSQC)-approved qualifications, National Occupational Standards (NOSs), and micro-credentials on AI and Machine Learning are in place. These cover areas such as Generative AI, Agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Prompt Engineering, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Robotics and Automation, AI Security, AI Ethics, AI Governance, and sector-specific AI applications.
PMKVY 4.0: AI and AI-enabled job roles across sectors
MSDE reported that PMKVY 4.0 trains candidates in AI and AI-enabled job roles across sectors including IT-ITES, Telecom, and Life Sciences. Job roles are developed in consultation with industry and Sector Skill Councils. MSDE further reported outcomes for the period up to 30.06.2026 under PMKVY 4.0: 53,449 candidates trained/oriented and 25,466 candidates certified in AI-related job roles.
