The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in Bharuch city, Gujarat, during May 2026. This drive test aimed to assess the real-time quality of mobile network services provided by various Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
TRAI evaluated key Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as Coverage, Call Drop Rate (CDR), and throughput for both voice and data services. The assessment involved a detailed analysis of performance metrics in different environments, including public transport hubs.
During the tests, the mobile network performance showed significant variability among TSPs. For example, the coverage gap for Airtel was 618 out of 42,053 samples, while BSNL reported 3,289 out of 40,866 samples with poor signal strength.
Dropped calls also varied, with Airtel recording 0 dropped calls from 378 attempts, while BSNL had 10 out of 365 calls.
