The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released Independent Drive Test (IDT) findings for Sindhudurg district and the Pune–Panaji highway route. The findings matter because they measure real-world mobile network quality, not only declared coverage, and they show how regulators assess service delivery across voice and data networks.

The drive test was conducted in April 2026, specifically from 14 to 17 April 2026, under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office, Bengaluru. TRAI said the exercise was meant to assess and verify real-time quality of mobile network services for consumer information.

What the TRAI drive test covered

TRAI measured telecom service provider performance on key Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, including coverage, call drop rate, call setup success rate, download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter, and packet drop rate. The drive test used live data and voice sessions on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks with SIM cards from all telecom service providers.

TRAI conducted the test in multiple settings to capture different usage conditions:

The Sindhudurg district assessment included a 451.7 km city drive, 13 hotspot locations, and an 8.5 km walk test. The highway assessment covered a 567.3 km route on the Pune to Panaji corridor.
