The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has updated Parliament on the performance, expansion, and third-party evaluations of the Skill India Mission. The update matters because it connects training delivery to employability, self-employment, apprenticeships, and emerging technology skills rather than treating skilling as a stand-alone administrative programme.

The Government of India said the Skill India Mission delivers skill, re-skill, and up-skill training through a network of centres under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Jan Shikshan Sansthan, National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, and Craftsmen Training Scheme through Industrial Training Institutes. The stated objective is to prepare youth with industry-relevant skills.

The reply also said that placements were tracked under the Short-Term Training component of PMKVY only in PMKVY 1.0, PMKVY 2.0, and PMKVY 3.0, which were implemented during 2015-16 to 2021-22. The ministry said that 56.89 lakh candidates were certified under short-term training and 24.3 lakh candidates were reported placed, yielding a placement rate of 42.8%.
