What happened
The Ministry of Women and Child Development reported expansion of One Stop Centres (OSCs) under the Mission Shakti framework. OSCs provide integrated and immediate support to women affected by violence and women in distress in private and public spaces across India, and the programme has been scaled alongside service convergence through helplines and referrals to longer-term support homes.
Background and earlier position
Under Mission Shakti, OSC is positioned as the immediate “one roof” support component (Sambal vertical) within a broader ecosystem of women’s safety and relief services. The Mission Shakti umbrella also integrates earlier relief and rehabilitation initiatives—Swadhar Greh and Ujjawala—under the Shakti Sadan Scheme for long-term institutional support and rehabilitation.
What changed now
The government reported: (1) an increased number of OSCs approved nationwide and a high share of OSCs already operational; (2) integration of OSCs with the Women Helpline to enable timely, coordinated referrals; (3) integration of the Women Helpline with ERSS-112 and Child Helpline 1098 for prompt emergency response and inter-agency coordination; and (4) referral linkage of OSCs with Shakti Sadan for continuum of care.
